**STUNT CERTIFICATION REQUIRED AS OF AUGUST 25, 2008 (good for 2 years)

STUNT CERTIFICATIONS are regulated and managed by the WIAA, which is a separate organization from WSCCA. Stunt certification classes can be found here:

WIAA Handbook rule 20.3.1.E. mandates that "hands-on" stunt certification is required for cheer coaches who intend to have their cheer squad perform stunts. These stunt certification clinics run for two hours and will be hosted in person. The certification program must be approved by the WIAA. Coaches must be recertified every two (2) years.

Because WIAA Handbook Rule 20.3.1.H.1.b requires assistant coaches to be at least 19 years of age, certificates for completing a stunt certification clinic and passing the test will be issued only to individuals who are at least 19 years of age. Additionally, you must pay the registration fee ($50 by credit card), complete the clinic and pass the required test before receiving your certification document (via e-mail) following your clinic date. The only acceptable method of payment is by credit card and must be prior to attending the clinic. Any coach who fails to pay on the day of the clinic will not be allowed to participate in the certification.

*Hands-on Clinics are $45 with a school Purchase Order or $50 with Credit Card per coach.

NOTE: As a result of a recent tech update, all hands-on clinics will be hosted on my247ed.com through ONE sign-up link (accessed through the green button below). Instructions for how to register can be found on the initial landing page after clicking the green button below.

*If you're experiencing technical difficulties registering for a clinic, please contact Nick Mendro.mailto:nmendro@wiaa.com

Steps to receive your certification after you've attended a clinic:

1. Return to your my247ed.com account

2. Select the "Conference Center" tab at the left of the page on my247ed.com

3. Click on the WIAA 2023 Cheer Coach Stunt Certification conference

4. Select the "Sessions & Schedule" tab on the left-hand side of the screen

5. Select "Confirm Attendance" (Note: If this step has already been completed, it is because you selected "Add to Your Schedule" prior to the clinic. Don't panic -- this is normal. Proceed to step 4 below).

6. Select "Certifications & Forms" on the left-hand side of the screen

7. Select "Start Application"

8. This should take you to a page with the header, "Are you ready to apply?"

9. Click all the sliders on this page to the right, indicating completion

10. Proceed to fill out the survey and download/sync your certificate

If a clinic is not scheduled in your area, or at a time that meets your needs, you could submit a request to host a clinic. Send your request at least three weeks prior to the first potential date listed to Cindy Adsit including the following information:

Three (3) potential dates and times

  • The name and physical address of the public facility that has been secured to host the event (if there are specific instructions about where to park or enter the building, please include those)

  • If you would like to host a certification clinic at your facility, the following items are required:

  • The clinic must be open to any cheer coach who needs to get the certification - we do not provide private clinics. Please realize that this means any number past the minimum of six coaches could be in attendance.

  • There must be room for attendees to sit during the lecture and video portions of the class.

  • There must be room for attendees to stand and safely participate in hands-on portions of the class.

  • Access to a projector, an overhead screen, and WIFI is necessary. Our clinicians utilize a Google Slides presentation with links to videos on YouTube to teach this class. Make sure that your facility’s WIFI policies will allow them access to all of these digital items (some schools limit access to WIFI or permissions for certain videos). Access to sound equipment is not necessary.

  • A restroom must be available for all attendees

  • The WIAA will not pay any rental fees. If the facility charges a rental fee, you are responsible for paying that fee from your own accounts.

  • Upon verification of availability from one of the WIAA stunt clinicians, the clinic will be posted on the WIAA Website. Provided a minimum of six (6) individuals have preregistered for the course, it will be held.

HEAT INDEX
When the Heat Index meets or exceeds 70°F it is recommended that all schools provide at any practice or event, a method for rapidly cooling athletes experiencing heat illness. Approved methods include ice water immersion or tarp assisted cooling with oscillation (TACO).

Schools shall monitor the heat index for their geographic area prior to practices. Outlined below are the steps that each member school shall take in order to implement this policy.

NOTE: This policy applies to all WIAA sanctioned sports and activities in all seasons. Indoor activities where air conditioning is available are not bound by this policy.
Designate: Schools shall designate someone who will take the necessary steps to determine and record the heat index for your geographic area within one hour of the start of each team's practice and events. This is only necessary on days when the forecasted heat index is 85°F or higher. Depending on practice and event schedules, it is possible that the designated person will have to record the Heat Index multiple times on the same day.

Calculate: Within one hour of each team's practice on days when the forecasted heat index is 85°F or higher, the designated person shall utilize the WIAA Heat Index Calculator to determine the actual heat index.

Record: If the actual heat index is 85°F or higher, the designated person shall record it using the WIAA Heat Index Record or by printing out a copy to be kept at the school for inspection at the request of the WIAA. A separate record shall be kept for each sport at each level. Practice modification, as necessary, shall also be recorded. If the actual heat index is less than 85°F, no action is needed.

Act: If the actual heat index is 95°F or higher, activity should be altered and/or eliminated using the following guidelines:

WIAA Recommendation: Stop all outside activity in practice and/or play and stop all inside activity if air conditioning is unavailable.
WIAA Recommendation: Postpone practice to later in the day.
